What happened? On Tuesday, the spring primary election for local and statewide non-partisan offices was held in Wisconsin. Moving onto the general election in April will be:

  • Rep. Dan Knodl vs. Jodi Habush Sinykin in the special election to fill the seat of the 8th Senate District, left vacant after Sen. Darling resigned.
  • Former Justice Dan Kelly vs. Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Janet Protasiewicz for the state Supreme Court.
  • Former State Rep. Chad Weininger vs. incumbent Mayor and former State Rep. Eric Genrich to be Mayor of Green Bay.

Why is it important? Aside from these races, there will also be two statewide referendums on the ballot. One ballot measure to change the constitutional provisions around bail, which if approved, will become law. The other is a non-binding referendum asking Wisconsinites whether they think able-bodied adults who receive public benefits should be required to work.

What’s next? The spring general election will take place on April 4th. Wisconsinites should gear up for campaign-ad season again as millions of dollars will be spent by in-state and out-state groups on these races.
