Madison, Wis. — The Millennial Debt Foundation’s (MDF) Stewardship Series is heading to Wisconsin to explore the generational, monetary, and national security consequences of Washington’s unsustainable fiscal trajectory.
Former Gov. Scott Walker and millennial Congressmen Mike Gallagher and Bryan Steil will join MDF Founder Weston Wamp for discussions related to the exploding national debt and the need for fiscal stewardship during a digital event at 1 p.m. CST on April 23. Along with its Wisconsin-based coalition partner, the Institute for Reforming Government (IRG), MDF will produce the event live from the offices of The Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee.
The Wisconsin event will be the third regional discussion organized by MDF following stops in Texas and Tennessee. The goal of the Stewardship Series is to break out of the Washington bubble to have honest conversations about the consequences of the national debt and the fiscal future of America.
In addition to Walker, Gallagher and Steil, Wisconsin Rep. John Macco, chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means and Wisconsin Department of Revenue Secretary, Peter Barca will lead a bipartisan panel discussion with a focus on civil society and fiscal stewardship. Macco is also chair of the National Conference of State Legislature’s Budget and Revenue committee, and Barca is a former U.S. Congressman and nine-term assemblyman.
“While deficit spending in Washington continues to accelerate, we are working across the country to have substantive and honest discussions with members of both parties about how to reinspire stewardship within the federal government,” said Wamp, who formed the MDF in 2019 to be the voice for younger Americans who will inherit the consequences of the national debt. “Rep. Gallagher and Rep. Steil represent a new generation of thoughtful fiscal leadership in Congress and we’re looking forward to getting their thoughts on the road ahead as the pandemic subsides.”
IRG President C.J. Szafir will join former Gov. Walker and Wamp for the second of three segments of the event.
“The Millennial Debt Foundation is one of the only organizations of its kind that is convening bipartisan conversations around the reforms needed to restore conservative, stable fiscal policy in Washington,” said Szafir. “At IRG it is our mission to shrink government and restore fiscal responsibility starting here in Wisconsin. If we want to make the American dream possible for the next generation, we must implore our leaders to take debt seriously and make sure our children are in a position to not be saddled with any more government burdens.”
