Gov. Evers Should Use Federal Stimulus Money to Issue Refunds to Wisconsin Taxpayers

Mar 24, 2021 | Press Release

Madison, Wis. — The Institute for Reforming Government recommends Gov. Evers utilize the $3.4 billion in new federal stimulus funds from the American Rescue Plan to issue refunds back to Wisconsin taxpayers. Wisconsinites know better than the government how to spend their hard-earned money. Low-income and middle-class families could receive significant relief under this proposal.

“Gov. Evers and local governments should return the federal money to the hard-working taxpayers of Wisconsin – they know best how to spend it,” said C.J. Szafir, President of IRG. “Wisconsin families and small businesses are hurting and need the economic boost more than our government does. With a projected budget surplus and a rainy-day fund that has $800 million, Gov. Evers should issue these much-needed checks to Wisconsin families.”

The IRG’s policy proposal can be found here, detailing why and how Gov. Evers should refund Wisconsin taxpayers with the federal funds coming into Wisconsin.
