IRG expands to eight full-time employees

Delafield, WI—Today the Institute for Reforming Government (IRG) announced the hiring of Nelson Ritthaler as Director of Donor & Stakeholder Relations. Nelson will work with IRG leadership to communicate our work to major stakeholders, donors, prospective donors, and foundations. He can be reached at [email protected]

IRG CEO, CJ Szafir said, “Nelson has an incredibly impressive, diverse background in counseling, acting, and the law, and a true passion for understanding and helping people. As I look to take IRG to a new level, I am very excited to have Nelson on our team to assist me in talking about IRG’s vision to build bridges across Wisconsin, solve kitchen table issues, and get results. He will be a major asset to the freedom movement in Wisconsin.”

Nelson is a recent University of Wisconsin Law School graduate, where he spent his time interning for the Alliance Defending Freedom, Liberty Justice Center, WI Supreme Court Justice Brian Hagedorn, and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL). He is a member of the Federalist Society and is also a Bradley Legal Fellow.

Before law school, Nelson worked as a mental health therapist, where he specialized in marriage counseling, but also worked with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and other mental health issues. He holds a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and received his undergraduate degree from UW-Whitewater. Additionally, Nelson has enjoyed a side hobby pursuing acting. He’s appeared in an episode of Chicago P.D. and a variety of other print and commercial ads. Nelson lives in Madison with his wife and two children and is hoping to move to the Kenosha area to be closer to family.

“I’m excited to help IRG take this next step,” said Nelson. “IRG’s commitment to finding real solutions to issues facing Wisconsin workers and families will make it easy to wake up every day excited to tell their story.”
