IRG Calls on Governor Evers to Appeal Biden Medicaid Decision

Madison, Wis. — Today, CJ Szafir, president of the Institute for Reforming Government, called on Governor Tony Evers to appeal the Biden administration’s decision to block Medicaid work requirements passed by former Gov. Scott Walker.

“The Biden Administration’s decision is a callous political maneuver meant to further erode our health care system by creating unending dependence on government-run health care and destroying our state’s strong commercial insurance market,” said CJ Szafir, president of IRG. “Requiring able-bodied adults to work, or look for work, is common sense.  As Governor Walker said, government assistance should be a trampoline, not a hammock. The result of this decision:  higher costs, fewer choices, and lower quality. Wisconsin has led the way by providing 100 percent access to coverage without expanding government-run health care. Gov. Evers should appeal this decision to ensure our safety net programs are there for those who truly need them. Gov. Evers needs to tell Washington, D.C., to stay out of Wisconsin.”
